Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of large sagging breasts that may cause neck and back pain and other physical symptoms which result from the excessive weight of large breasts. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue and skin to make the breasts smaller and firmer and more in proportional to the rest of the body.
Breast reduction may be performed as a single procedure or in combination with a breast lift, to reduce the weight of the breast before a breast lift to provide additional support. Your surgeon will be able to advise you the most suitable treatment to achieve the best results.
At Saint Luke's Hospital board certified plastic & reconstructive surgeons Dr. Miguelangelo Gonzales and Dr. Marco Marroquin specialize in cosmetic surgery. They blend surgical skills with artistic talent to transform the breast area into natural and very feminine curves. You get the very best results at the most affordable prices.

A good candidate for breast lift surgery should enjoy good health and have realistic expectations of the results. The average surgical process for breast reduction takes 2 to 3 hours, and slightly longer if a breast lift procedure is also performed. The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia. To minimize scaring, incisions are made around the areola, in the vertical lines below this, or in the crease below the breast, where they will become virtually invisible and imperceptible with the lapse of time. Once the surgery is completed, the surgeon closes the incisions with sutures or surgical tape.
The patient usually maintains 24 hours in hospital, and although it can be handled as a "short-stay” surgery, it is preferable to keep the patient admitted until the next day, since this allows a greater immediate postoperative monitoring. The bandages which cover the breast should be removed after 4 or 5 days, at which time a special medical bra should be used 24 hours a day for 8 weeks, until normal activities can resume.
Most surgery carries some risk, and you should be aware of the medical risks of a breast reduction procedure before you consent to surgery. The surgeon should discuss these risks with you at your consultation.
Risks vary from patient to patient depending on several factors. The following risks are possible risks associated with this type of surgery and are listed regardless of how slight the possibility:
• Bleeding and blood clot formation.
• Accumulation of fluid.
• Poor healing of the incisions.
• A change in the sensitivity of nipples which may be temporary or permanent.
• Leakage of implant or rupture.
• Slight pain, which may be persistent.
• Risks associated with anesthesia and the possibility of revision surgery.
