A Face Lift will help reduce the effects of aging, by tightening the skin in the face and neck. It will improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as sagging in the mid-face and loss of muscle tone in the face which may create jowls, under the chin and around the cheeks or lower jaw. The aim is to give you a younger looking face with tighter skin tone and the appearance of approximately 10 years younger.

Rhytidoplasty does not stop the process of facial aging, only conceals and eliminates excess skin, softens the frown lines (wrinkles) and recreates again the right angles of the face. Rejuvenation procedures that are typically performed in conjunction with a facelift are brow lift, to correct sagging brows, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.

The surgeons at Saint Luke's are highly experienced in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures and blend surgical skills with artistic talent to you get the very best results at the most affordable prices.

Procedure

A surgical procedure to tighten facial skin and muscles around the face and neck and usually involves incisions in front of and behind the ear. Once the incisions are made, the skin and fat are raised and separated from the muscle. Muscle tightening as well as liposuction of the neck and jowls may be performed, and excess skin is removed or repositioned. After this procedure, the incisions are closed and the skin secured with fine sutures. The sutures are usually removed five to ten days after surgery.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and sedation, and rarely requires general anesthesia. Dressings and bandages are applied to the head around the ears to protect the incisions. Most patients can return to work in one to two weeks.

Risks

All surgery carries some degree of risk, however in the hands of a qualified surgeon the risks are usually minor and infrequent:

Complications can include bruising, poor healing, infection, bleeding, nerve injury, pain and change in hairline. Risks can be minimized by following the surgeon's advice before and after surgery.
